Stan Simpson is a Chicago, Illinois native and a proud 2013 graduate of the University of Memphis. After completing his collegiate career, he went on to play professionally overseas as well as in the NBA G League, gaining invaluable experience competing at the highest levels.

With more than seven years of coaching and player development experience, Stan has worked with athletes from youth beginners to advanced competitors. His approach centers on skill mastery, game intelligence, and long-term growth. Stan’s professionalism, high-level playing background, and commitment to teaching make him an exceptional leader on our staff and a powerful mentor for every athlete he works with.

Trainer | Coach

Koko, originally from Congo, Africa, brings a unique passion and energy to his role as a trainer at Hoop Dreams. His deep love for basketball, which was nurtured through his college experience at Campbellsville University, now fuels his dedication to coaching. Graduating from Campbellsville gave Koko not only a solid foundation in the sport but also a profound understanding of the game’s impact. His background allows him to connect deeply with younger generations, blending his rich cultural heritage with his excitement for the sport. This connection enriches his training approach, making him a truly inspiring figure for aspiring players.

Coach | Trainer

Oshiua "Coach Osh" Alston brings a unique perspective to the game of basketball, shaped by his military upbringing and diverse playing experiences. Originally from Blountstown, Florida, he competed at the collegiate level at El Camino College in Torrance, California, where he developed a deep understanding of the game. Currently, he is one year away from earning his bachelor's degree in Sports Leadership at the University of Kentucky, further sharpening his knowledge of coaching and athlete development.

Coach Osh believes that coaching is more than just strategy—it’s about commitment to the game and the players who dedicate themselves to it. With aspirations of becoming a Division 1 head coach, he is driven by a passion to positively impact lives, both on and off the court. His leadership philosophy blends discipline, mentorship, and the belief that basketball is a powerful tool for growth beyond the game.

14u DreamHERS Coach

Ishmael Thomas has been coaching basketball since 2009 and brings extensive experience developing athletes at the AAU, elementary, and middle school levels. He has served as both a Head Coach and Program Director in boys and girls AAU programs, helping guide young players through key stages of their basketball development.

Ishmael has spent six seasons coaching at Southern Middle School, working with both the boys and girls programs. His teams have consistently reached the playoffs, earning multiple Final Four appearances and capturing a City Championship in 2021. Throughout his coaching career, he has helped develop numerous All-City players and has seen the majority of his athletes continue on to compete at the high school level, with several going on to play collegiate basketball.

Known for his commitment to player development and competitive team culture, Ishmael focuses on building strong fundamentals, confidence, and a passion for the game in every athlete he works with.

13u Assistant Coach |12u Assistant Coach

Damian "Coach D" McPherson, originally from Piscataway, NJ, is a basketball enthusiast who honed his skills at Cecil Community College before transferring to Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) on a full scholarship. It was at EKU where Damian formed a lasting friendship with teammate Mike Scott. Despite his self described "energetic quiet" demeanor, Coach D played a role in founding Hoop Dreams in 2007.

Coach D has since moved into a career with Toyota while remaining actively involved in developing athletes and prioritizing family time. Described by his college coach Travis Ford as "an extremely hard worker who does everything in his power to see that the team succeeds," Coach D currently serves as the 11u Head Coach at Hoop Dreams. He continues to contribute to Hoop Dream's and his team's success while maintaining his dedication to the sport and his community.

Born and raised in Lexington Ky, DeShante’ has had a passion for basketball her entire life. And has shown an immense passion in giving back to the community that developed her to the individual she is today and developing young athletes. She is an alumnus of Bryan Station High School and the University of Louisville where she completed her first degree is Exercise Science. She is currently coaching middle school girls basketball at Bryan Station Middle School.
